A new era of luxury travel
Aman has brought a new perspective to the luxury travel industry, where opulence is not defined by grand receptions, lounges, and shiny marbles.
At Aman, each property is designed to offer profound privacy, unrivalled access to extraordinary locations, peace, high-end hospitality, and a key to the authentic soul of the destination.
What sets Aman miles apart from all other luxury hotels around the world is the attention to detail and the service. Service that goes way beyond 5-star hotels.
Limited rooms and an incredibly amazing service crew. They will literally know your name without your introduction. The rooms will be warm (not air-conditioned) but cozy, wood-fire warm.
The peace and contentment Aman hotels carry is indescribable. You will be in zen. The Amankora lodges in Bhutan have the same style yet are different. The lodges do not compete with other luxury hotels.
With limited rooms, most of them are booked for months at a time. In simple words, the Amankora lodges in Bhutan are not another brand trying to sell luxury hospitality.
The Amankora five lodges in five different valleys in Bhutan are all about showcasing the rich, timeless Bhutanese culture to the world. Each lodge is connected by private road transport, shares the same service philosophy, and is designed to feel like a slow circuit.
The Amankora Bhutan experience
The Amankora Bhutan is definitely not in the standard luxury hotel range. It is also not a place where you can just show up without planning.
The property has an incredible spa and other services, but no price menu. And a team that truly understands immersion, not just comfort and amenities.
The five Amankora Lodges in Bhutan:
In 2020, Bhutan issued its first business license to foreign investors, and Aman was also invited to build an outpost of its brand. Aman shortly began its ambitious creation of Aman-Koras through its distinctive luxury lens.
What made Aman a perfect fit for Bhutan is its low-volume, high-quality philosophy. Today, Aman has five lodges in five different valleys across the country's western and central mountainscapes.
Amankora Paro:
Amankora Paro is hidden in the pine forests and wheat fields. The lodge is built with local stone and massive timber and has 24 suites. Rooms are carefully designed and offer views of snow-covered Jhomolhari mountain.
Things you will do in Paro:
- Arrive, settle, and explore the town.
- Visit Tiger's Nest at dawn and explore Paro Dzong in the afternoon. The evening includes walking through farmland.
If you stay two nights, you can visit a monastery for blessings or experience a craft workshop.
Amankora Thimphu:
Amankora Thimphu is perched in a secluded pine forest overlooking Bhutan's capital. This lodge has 16 suites. The rooms blend traditional dzong-style architecture with contemporary design.
You can easily reach Thimphu's vibrant city centre from the lodge. Suites feature spacious bathrooms with twin vanities, terrazzo-clad bathtubs, and separate toilets and showers.
Things you will do in Thimphu:
- Visit the National Memorial Chorten in the morning.
- See traditional manuscripts in the National Library in mid-morning when it's usually empty.
- Experience an artisan workshop of your choice (woodcarvers, painters, and weavers). You will have an hour to spend with the artisan and learn about the craft.
- Evenings are for immersive dinners crafted by the Amankora chef.
There will be no crowded museum tours. Instead, you will be at places that require special permissions and experience the crafts closely.
Amankora Punakha:
The Amankora Punakha is located in the subtropical valley that produces most of the nation's vegetables. The property is a converted farmhouse. It was built by a former Je Khenpo (chief abbot) and dates back 300 years.
The lodge has 12 suites, including two Mo Chhu Suites. The two Mo Chhu Suites feature spacious living areas and can be combined to offer two bedrooms. This property also has a 20-meter heated outdoor infinity pool overlooking rice terraces.
Things you will do in Punakha:
- Visit Punakha Dzong at sunrise. Enjoy a peaceful walk across the suspension bridge and explore the town.
- Explore rice paddies and see farmers working. Visit a farmhouse where you can have lunch with a local family (invite-only).
- Visit an orange grove and farmers' market.
The tour will be focused on meeting people and places, not only visiting tourist sites. Conversations and moments that naturally happen, not staged.
Amankora Gangtey:
Amankora Gangtey is situated in the serene Phobjikha Valley. It offers an incredible rural experience with breathtaking views of the valley floor. The property also overlooks Gangtey Goemba Monastery, a 16th-century historical site.
There are 8 suites in Gangtey Lodge. They are identical to those of Thimphu Lodge. The Gangtey Lodge is surrounded by farmlands and offers direct access to hiking and biking trails.
Things you will do in Gangtey:
- Enjoy a peaceful walk through the vast rice fields.
- Pre-dawn crane spotting with a naturalist guide. 2+ hours of silent observation. End with a village walk.
- There is an option of a monastery hike, or enjoy some time at the lodge and read a book.
Gangtey is all about stillness.
Amankora Bumthang:
Bumthang is home to 29 temples and monasteries, including the ancient Jambay Lhakhang. If you are interested in Bhutan's art and painting tradition, Bumthang is the place for you.
Amankora Bumthang lies adjacent to Wandichholing Palace, within the town of Jakar. It has 16 suites and features spacious bathrooms with twin vanities, terrazzo-clad bathtubs, and separate toilets and showers.
Things you will do in Bumthang:
- Temple walk at golden hour.
- Cycle along quiet roads and visit villages. Sit in a monastery courtyard and have tea with locals.
- Visit craft workshops (weaving, wood carving) and farms.
Spend time with monks. You will feel like a local.
