Essential Information

What are the main attractions of the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra?

The luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a sacred journey. For most travelers, the Kailash Mansarovar is an adventurous trip into myths, legends, and mysteries.

However, for Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, and Bon followers, the Kailash Yatra is a once-in-a-lifetime journey that brings them close to their deities.

Whatever your reason is to travel to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, it is going to be an incredible journey. Below, we have mentioned the main attractions of the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra:

Nepalese and Tibetan culture:

Our luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 13 days starts from Kathmandu, Nepal. Following our luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra itinerary, you will spend one full day in Kathmandu.

During your time in Kathmandu, we will take you on a guided tour of Pashupatinath Temple, Budhanilkantha Temple, Monkey Temple, and Bouddha Stupa in Kathmandu.

Although you will spend a relatively short time in Nepal, a visit to these historical sites will let you dive into the realm of Nepali culture, traditions, art, and architecture.

Likewise, while traveling from Kerung to Darchen, you will learn a lot about Tibetan culture and traditions. You will visit Tibetan monasteries, try Tibetan food, and explore numerous Tibetan handicrafts.

Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake are also holy for Tibetans. The tour will also show you the religious significance of these two sites for Tibetans. It will be a wholesome experience exploring the same destinations with different religious values and importance.

Mount Kailash:

Mount Kailash is not just a mountain. It is a hope and blessing for millions of people. Known to be the axis of the Universe and center of spirituality, Mount Kailash attracts pilgrims from around the world regardless of its inhospitable conditions.

The mountain rises 6,638 meters above sea level in the remote western Tibet in the Ngari Prefecture. The mountain is shaped like a near-perfect four-sided pyramid.

There are many legends, myths, and mysteries on Mount Kailash, and it is not possible to talk about all of them here. So, we will definitely write a separate blog and share it with you.

Mansarovar Lake:

Mansarovar Lake is situated at 4,590 meters above sea level, around 20 km southeast of Mount Kailash. It is one of the world's highest freshwater lakes and holds significant spiritual importance for multiple religions.

For instance, Hindus believe that Mansarovar Lake was created from the mind of Lord Brahma, and taking a dip in the lake will cleanse their sins. The lake is beautiful and surrounded by the Himalayan mountains.

At the northwest shore of the lake, you can see five monasteries, including the Chiu monastery. Many pilgrims also do the Parikrama of Mansarovar Lake for their wish fulfillment.

Rakshastal:

Rakshastal, also known as the Lake of Devil, is situated west of Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. The lake is located 4,575 meters above sea level.

Rakshastal is associated with Ravan, the demon king of Lanka. For Hindus, Rakshastal is not pure like Mansarovar Lake because they believe the demon has poisoned the lake.

Regardless of the myths and legends, the beauty of Rakshastal is equally mesmerizing.

*Many consider Mansarovar Lake and Rakshastal as the Sun and Moon or the Yin and Yang.

Himalayan mountain vistas:

On the luxury Kailash Mansarovar tour, you will travel in the Himalayan range, which is home to the tallest mountains on Earth.

You will see mountains like Langtang Himal, Shishapangma, Gaurishankar, Nandi Parvat, Gurla Mandhata, Kailash Parvat, Nalakankar Himal, etc.

*If you are interested in seeing Mount Everest and other stunning mountains in Nepal, we can include an Everest Experience Flight or Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour on the second day in Kathmandu.

Both these tours take less than five hours to complete.

The Kailash Parikrama (Kora):

The Kailash Parikrama is an integral part of the luxury Kailash Mansarovar tour. It is a three-day circumambulation around Mt. Kailash that starts with a short drive from Darchen.

Hindus and Buddhists perform the parikrama in the clockwise direction, and the Bon practitioners do the kora in the anti-clockwise direction.

During the Kailash Parikrama, you will reach the highest point of this trip, Dolma La Pass, which is situated 5,630 meters above sea level.

The Kailash Parikrama is 51 km long. Devotees walk this distance on foot. Some also choose to use a horse to complete the kora. This is the Kailash Parikrama route:

Darchen to DiraPuk (17 km and 7-8 hours of walking) - The parikrama begins from YamDwar, which is located 6 km from Darchen. You will take a short drive to YamDwar. From here, you will hike to Dirapuk, enjoying the north face of Mt. Kailash. On the way, you will explore Choku and Dirapuk monasteries.

DiraPuk to ZuthulPhuk via Dolma La Pass (22 km and 8-9 hours of walking) - The trail ascends to Dolma La Pass. It will be a challenging ascent above 5,000 meters. From the pass, descend to ZuthulPhuk. You can see Gauri Kunda while descending.

Kailash Parikrama end (12 km and 4-5 hours of walking) - On the last day of the parikrama, you will descend from ZuthulPhuk to Dzong Chu Valley. The parikrama ends at Zongdui.

Chiu Gompa and other monastery visits:

➙ Chiu Gompa (monastery) is situated at the western shore of Mansarovar lake at 4,590 meters. The monastery sits on a steep, red-colored, elevated hill-like surface. It is one of the most popular monasteries near Mansarovar Lake. The Chiu Gompa is closely related to Guru Rinpoche.

➙ Likewise, you will also explore the Dirapuk monastery during the Kailash Kora. Dirapuk monastery sits at 5,210 meters above sea level and serves as an ancient spiritual sanctuary.

➙ You will also explore the Zuthulphuk monastery, located east of Mt. Kailash at 4,835 meters above sea level. This monastery is known as the miracle cave, built in the 13th century.

High altitude experience:

High altitude is another one of the highlights of the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. You will ascend above 5,500 meters above sea level on this tour, which is not a small thing.

The environment, weather, and oxygen level are different at high altitudes. If you live in the plains, experiencing this kind of altitude is a big deal. Your body will need a couple of days to adjust to it, and if you fail to acclimate, altitude sickness is inevitable.

Nevertheless, you will love the peace, crisp air, and the views at high altitude. It will be a lifetime experience.

Health and safety during the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

Your safety and well-being are at the top of our priority list during the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. High altitude, remote location, rugged terrain, and limited services are some of the top challenges of the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Thanks to our luxury package, we are able to provide you with access to better services during the Kailash tour. However, high altitude, remote location, and rugged terrain are still concerning.

To tackle high altitude, we have thoughtfully designed our luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra itinerary. You will slowly gain altitude from Kathmandu to Mansarovar Lake.

The elevation gradually rises from 1,324 meters (Kathmandu) to 1,800 meters (Rasuwagadhi) to 2,900 meters (Kerung) to 4,640 meters (Saga) to 4,590 meters (Mansarovar Lake).

We have also kept an acclimatization break in Kerung at 2,900 meters, which will be great to adjust to the elevation before a big jump to Saga at 4,640 meters.

Additionally, our team will actively monitor your blood sugar level with an oximeter and provide early altitude sickness care if needed. We also have clear emergency response plans for different unseen situations to ensure you return to Kathmandu safely.

In short, you can travel to Kailash Mansarovar without any worry with us. We specialize in this tour, and we know what we are doing and what is best for you. So, trust us and follow our lead.

Luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra preparation

Physical and mental fitness: The Kailash Kora is challenging. It involves three days of intensive walking at high altitude. So, you have to be fit. Depending on your fitness, you should regularly exercise to physically prepare for the trip. Likewise, the Kailash Kora is also mentally demanding. It requires determination, patience, and mindfulness.

Altitude preparation: To prepare for high altitude during the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you can go on a day hike. Other than that, you cannot do much for high altitude preparation. Instead, follow a proper acclimatization plan during the trip and preventive measures such as hydration and slow hiking.

Spiritual preparation: The luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a spiritual journey. You might want to bring essential offerings and items for your puja, but due to border regulations and religious sensitivity, certain items such as religious books and pamphlets are prohibited. So, pack wisely.

Luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra permits and visas

For the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you will need the following permits and visas:

  • Tibet Travel Permit (TTP)
  • Alien’s Travel Permit
  • Military Area Permit
  • Chinese Group Visa
  • Nepal Travel Visa

*Note: Nepal travel visa fee is not included in our luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra package. Travelers have to get it by themselves.

WiFi, hot showers, charging, and mobile network during the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The Kailash Mansarovar area is remote with very limited resources and access to modern conveniences such as WiFi. Even the mobile network is not reliable, especially along the Kailash Kora route. Other than an inflexible network, you will have access to charging and hot showers throughout the trip.

WiFi: WiFi is very limited and not available after Darchen. The network may not be reliable due to the unpredictable weather and location.

Hot showers: Hot showers are available in all hotels. However, during the Kailash Kora, it may not be available. We also do not recommend bathing during the Kora because you are at a high altitude and in a cold climate. If your body does not quickly warm up, the risk of altitude sickness increases. It is important that you regulate your body temperature at Mansarovar Lake onwards.

Charging: Electricity is available in all hotels during the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. You can charge your mobile and camera without any worries. Voltage fluctuation can be frequent, so make sure you are aware of that. You should definitely pack a universal charger and power banks for backup.

Mobile network: The mobile network is also not that reliable around the Kailash area. You have to use a local Chinese SIM card. The signal is available in towns like Kerung and Saga, but gets weaker as you ascend higher.

Age restriction for Kailash Yatra

The minimum age requirement for the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is 13 years old, and travelers up to age 70 can do this trip.

If you are not in this age group and still want to do the luxury Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, we recommend talking to us. We will see what you can do and help you find the best option.
